Pine Marten

These footprints were photographed by Johnny Birks in Brechfa Forest, Wales.

The upper print is a pes, with a typically mustelid 'teardrop' shape to the combined toe pad and claw imprints.

The lower print is a manus, rather dog-like, but with a more prominent 3rd digit and longer claws than most dogs. The four toe imprints are also offset with respect to the orientation of the heel, in a fox or dog they would be more symmetrically arranged.
