A distinctive skull, with very large suborbital pits and, in the male, prominent tusks, with antler pedicles arising from long ridges. In a study of 76 males aged over 2 years, 41% were found to have broken one or both canines. The Muntjac is naturalised in the UK, although an introduction in France was unsuccessful.
